Trying to look back into your childhood in order to figure out "why" you're prone to anxiety or depression can often lead to an endless dissection the past. From a Self-Coaching perspective, it matters not whether your potty training was too strict or too lenient; it only matters that you take responsibility for reframing your thinking now.
Do this by becoming aware of, and then eliminating knee-jerk, insecurity-driven thinking (i.e., doubts, fears, and negatives).
A cigarette smoker looking to stop smoking doesn't need to know why he or she took that first cigarette, only to address and break the habit today. The insecurity-driven habits associated with anxious and depressive thinking are no different.
Begin by challenging the incessant doubts, fears, and negative thoughts that typically go unchallenged. How? One thought at a time. Do this and you'll begin to take your life back from anxiety and depression.
