Becoming your own self-coach may seem like a tall order, especially if you’re feeling sapped by depression or depleted by chronic anxiety. But keep in mind a very important Self-Coaching principle: feelings aren’t necessarily facts! Just because you feel you can’t doesn’t make it so. You have unlimited potential for liberating yourself from a life of struggle. We see this all the time with human feats of unbelievable determination. Just ask Fauja Singh, the “Turbaned Torpedo,” who in 2011 (at the age of one hundred) completed the 26.2-mile Toronto Marathon! How about Herbert Nitsch, an Australian free diver who, on one breath, was able to dive 702 feet below the surface. Or Dean Karnazes, an American ultramarathoner who completed 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days. And then there’s Wim “Iceman” Hof, a Dutch adventurer who climbed Mount Everest and Mount Kilimanjaro wearing only shorts! Don’t ever underestimate the power of determination or the human potential to turn the impossible into the possible.
