    If you’re prone to excessive worrying, try this simple visualization. Imagine yourself holding a bunch of brightly colored balloons. Each balloon represents one of your worry-thoughts. Let go of each worry balloon and watch it slowly float skyward, getting smaller, shrinking…gone! The ability to let go of ruminative, troublesome thoughts is simply a matter of “letting go.”

     

    Why do visualizations work? For starters, a positive visualization will switch off your sympathetic nervous system (your agitation response) and turns on your parasympathetic system (relaxation response). It’s hard to remain agitated when you’re relaxed!
