Oh no! Today is the shortest day of the year!

Today is the shortest day of the year. The Sun will set here in New Jersey at 4:30 PM. For many, this is an oppressive time of year when a world of muted, unsavory gray tones has replaced life’s vibrant summer palette. Rather than complaining and moaning and getting all bummed out by winter, perhaps another perspective is needed.

And what might that be? The Danish concept of ‘Hygge’ describes a cozy, contented mood evoked by comfort, conviviality, spending time with friends and family, a cozy fire, and…you get the picture. For me, the long dark days of winter are an opportunity to visit the kaleidoscope of color in the heavens above. It’s not the light or the dark; it’s our willingness to never be shackled by circumstances… however dark or dreary it is outside.
